English Country Hotel Afternoon Tea

Something a little different today and I’m sharing with you a recent experience I had which was going to afternoon tea at a local country hotel.

Afternoon tea is a lovely thing to do when you are in the UK especially with older children as it’s so lovely to see them enjoying it and taking in the atmosphere and creating memories.Β I went along with my family to have afternoon tea and here is what we had.

A selection of tea’s including:

  • English Breakfast
  • Earl Grey
  • Pear Caramel
  • Chocolate Orange Truffle
  • Mandarin Rose Petal
  • Green Tea Tropical
  • Chamomile Citrus
  • Calming Moon
  • Berry Wellness

We were able to smell each of the infusions and take in the rich aromas of the tea. My children had a lot of fun with this part smelling all the different flavours and deciding which ones that they wanted to try. I chose Earl Grey, my partner he had the Chocolate Orange Truffle Tea, the children chose English Breakfast and Tropical Green Tea.

Next came the food!

Traditional finger sandwiches and a selection of cakes including Battenberg, mini lemon meringue tarts, Β macarons, a chocolate truffle and a honeycomb cheesecake also served were warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

It was really nice and although not the finest afternoon tea I’ve had, it was a pleasant way to spend an afternoon with my family. We were on such a sugar high after this. It was a real treat as we do not usually eat this much food in the afternoon.

It’s always such a magical and indulgent experience to share afternoon tea. Β The hotel was lovely, as were the gardens. It was so cold and rainy on the day we didn’t get to walk around them. I can imagine it would be lovely in the summer and I plan to return at a later date to explore some more.

This sounds and looks amazing, Gemma! I feel in the states, there isn’t that much of an emphasis on tea, as there is in Europe and other parts of the world, such as Asia. We seem to be more coffee oriented. It looks so delightful and sounds like such a great experience to sit and have tea and so much more chic and sophisticated than grabbing a coffee, might I add!

Thanks so much for sharing and you’ve opened the idea of sitting and enjoying some tea with my hubby and family, most likely come spring. There’s a few places in Brooklyn, NY that have some tea spots that I’ve never tried out.

Have a wonderful week ahead, beautiful, and thanks so much for sharing!

    XO,

    Jalisa

Omg… this looks too good… I’m seriously drooling right now… (I’ll take a tea later this evening… with a dry biscuit…). That trifle looks to die for πŸ˜›
I love afternoon tea (probably because I’ve got such a sweet tooth!). In England we’ve already had tea at fancy places… The Ritz, The Waldorf, the Goring and in Paris we had afternoon tea at Hotel Daniel. But it doesn’t always have to be that fancy… in the Peak District we had the most amazing scones with clotted cream, accompanied by a fine Earl Grey tea (at the Monsal viaduct) and in a little village (Tissington) we had a fab afternoon tea served by Sir Richard Fitzherbert himself (he lives in the Hall right next to the little tearoom which he owns as well… he, nor his wife, are too proud to serve their guests!!).
    Love, Kathleen

Hi Kathleen, haha πŸ™‚ Wow you have had afternoon tea many times in the UK. I agree with you it seems always a nice experience whether you are at the best and most expensive hotel or a local small cafe. It’s just all about the experience. Have a lovely evening. Gemma xx
