3 Ways to Mix Up Your Style

Getting bored with your look? We hear you. Even if your style was head-turning once upon a time, nothing lasts forever. In fact, you may wish to change your style even if your style is still head-turning. All the best people continually reinvent themselves — if your wardrobe and appearance is beginning to feel like a tired old record, then it’s time to take a wrecking ball to your current clothing inventory and mix things up, albeit on a slow basis so that people don’t think you’ve completely shifted your personality overnight.

Need some help on how to do it? We’ve got you covered — here are three of our favorite strategies for pushing your style forward.

Hit the Second-Hand Stores

We can’t think of a better way to mix up your style than by hitting some second-hand stores, picking up a few quality pieces, and slowly introducing them into your outfits. This approach can take a bit of work — you’ll need to learn how to dig — but can pay off handsomely, not just in terms of improving your look but also helping you to save money. It’s much cheaper to buy second-hand clothing than new clothes.

If you don’t trust your digging eye yet, then stick to well-curated vintage stores. Virtually everything there will be good quality, so even if you end up not loving an item for your own wardrobe, you should have no problem selling it (sometimes even for a profit).

Make the Most of Jewelry

Want to subtly announce to the world that a style shift is on the way? Then jewelry is your friend. Jewelry works great for developing your style because it’s A. cheap (or can be, anyway) B. low-key and C. looks great. The jewelry you buy will depend on your starting point. If you’re more of a traditional dresser looking to liven things up, then a ring or chain necklace could work. If you’re looking to go deeper into an alternative way of dressing, then take a look at ear gauges or getting a nose piercing. These items of jewelry will help set the tone for the rest of your style upgrades, and plus, they’re just fun.

DIY Clothing

Making your own clothing doesn’t just give you a one-of-a-kind look that very much reflects who you are. It’s also fun, and extremely budget-friendly. It’s a great way to breathe new life into clothing that has seen better days. If you have no idea where to start, then take a look at this page, which outlines a bunch of DIY clothing tips that virtually anyone can follow.

And while it might not be the end goal, learning to upcycle your clothing may even lead to a small side business. Everyone loves buying unique clothing, so once you’ve gotten your techniques down, look at renting a stall at a market and see who bites.

And there we have it! With these three tips, you should have a show-stopping look that aligns with your personality in no time.
